Taupo teen Conrad Clark has recorded his best ever finish in the Formula 4 United States Championship at Pittsburgh despite battling with a mechanical issue. The 15-year-old was on the back foot from the start of the event after not taking part in the test day and then picking up a five-place grid penalty during Friday practice in wet conditions. A strong qualifying performance on Saturday morning saw Clark set the fifth fastest time right up until the final three minutes of the session when he was just pipped by two others in the final moments. Conrad Clark added another Top 10 finish to his United States Formula 4 Championship campaign over the weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The 15-year-old from Taupo had previously recorded three points finishes in the last three races of the season and continued that streak into the opening race at Mid-Ohio. After starting 12th, Clark moved up a few positions but his efforts were hindered by a gearbox drama as well as the race running behind the safety car for the majority of its duration, including the finish. Taupo’s Conrad Clark has finished in the top ten at the second round of the US Formula 4 Championship at Road Atlanta over the weekend driving for Kiwi Motorsport. Having qualified 17th, Clark was also hit with a two rid race penalty (causing a red flag) then faced a difficult first race that was run mostly under yellow (caution) flag. He was able to improve with a final charge finishing in 10th. A similar situation was faced by drivers in the second race also ran under yellow for seven laps, leaving six remaining laps for racing due to a competitor’s engine seizing and leaving oil on the track. Speedsport Scholarship winner Conrad Clark has confirmed a 2018 drive with Kiwi Motorsport in the US Formula 4 Championship. The fifteen-year-old currently drives for Sabre Motorsport in the Hi Q Components Formula First National Series. The Taupo-based driver will head to the USA later in April for the start of the six round series while his supporters are busy working on putting the final budget together.
