Taupo’s Conrad Clark has finished in the top ten at the second round of the US Formula 4 Championship at Road Atlanta over the weekend driving for Kiwi Motorsport.
Having qualified 17th, Clark was also hit with a two rid race penalty (causing a red flag) then faced a difficult first race that was run mostly under yellow (caution) flag. He was able to improve with a final charge finishing in 10th.
A similar situation was faced by drivers in the second race also ran under yellow for seven laps, leaving six remaining laps for racing due to a competitor’s engine seizing and leaving oil on the track. Clark finished ninth with further championship points to add to his growing tally.
In the final race of the weekend a six car pileup early in the race once again brought out a yellow flag. Clark moved into sixth and was aiming for a podium but eventually fell back to ninth with over-heating tyres slowing his progress.
“Conrad shows great pace under very challenging conditions,” commented Kiwi Motorsport’s Garry Orton. “The American tracks are quite difficult to learn as they have a lot of elevation and blind corners. Conrad is adapting to the challenges very well with limited time in the car and he still manages to run up the front. Some of his moves we recognize as text book Formula First style.”.
The next round of the championship is at Mid Ohio Sports car Course 28 June to 1 July 2018.
